We are transformed by our faith — Scripture Reflection #045

Galatians 3:26-28 (New Living Translation)

26 For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. 28 There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Part of the beauty of the Good News of Jesus Christ is that when we have faith in Jesus and what He did with His life, death, and resurrection, we become children of God. This is a new identity that supercedes all others that we could earn on our own or that might be given to us by others. So whether you worked hard and got yourself a high position in your company, or you did not manage to measure up to the standards of others, your faith in Christ gives you an identity that is greater than any other this world can offer.

Beyond this, when we put our faith in Jesus and invite Him into our lives daily, He lives through us. This means that despite our failures and shortcomings, God sees His son in us and graciously accepts us. We can then go about our lives, trusting Jesus to help us do God’s will, and therefore live in the fullness that God wants for us.

The Apostle Paul lived this reality out. He declares in Galatians 2:20, “My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Jesus wants us to have that same trust in Him today. We can start by reflecting on our weaknesses and surrendering them to God. From there, we can ask the Holy Spirit to lead us into obedience to God’s will. Then, we are transformed by our faith in God!
