Officially God’s — Scripture Reflection #047
Ephesians 1:13-14 (New Living Translation)
13 …And when you believed in Christ, He identified you as His own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom He promised long ago. 14 The Spirit is God’s guarantee that He will give us the inheritance He promised and that He has purchased us to be His own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify Him.
Just like when we sign paperwork when making a deal, or seal a letter with an official seal, and things become “official”, God makes His relationship with us official when He gives us His Holy Spirit. But to receive His Spirit, we must first believe in Jesus Christ. We must believe that He died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead in order to save us from our sins. We must also believe and confess that He is Lord over our lives. Once we believe and make this confession, we receive the Holy Spirit and have a right relationship with God. When we are in a relationship with God, He becomes our Heavenly Father, and we become His children. As His children, we are guaranteed an inheritance of salvation, hope, and eternal life with our Heavenly Father. This should make us want to praise and glorify God for His goodness towards us!
The Point: When we believe in Jesus Christ, we become officially God’s.
