Will you still trust Him?— Scripture Reflection #070
Genesis 12:10 (New Living Translation)
10 At that time a severe famine struck the land of Canaan, forcing Abram to go down to Egypt, where he lived as a foreigner.
Earlier in Genesis 12, God called Abram to leave his homeland and go to a land where God promised he and his descendants would have everything they needed to become a great nation. However, we see in verse 10 that when Abram arrives in the land, there is a severe famine. At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if Abram began to question if he was in the right spot.
But isn’t that just like God? He gives us a promise that requires us to trust Him to see it through. When our expectations do not line up with God’s promises, it requires us to first hand those expectations over to God, then seek His will, and finally (but continuously), have faith and trust that His will will be done His way in His timing.

Consider Abram, one name change, and many years added onto his life. Despite holding onto the promise that he would be the father of a great nation, he would not see that covenant come to pass until he was well beyond the natural age for fatherhood. Or think of Abraham’s great-grandson, Joseph. When he was young he had dreams of honor and authority. However, those dreams did not come to fruition until his betrayal, slavery, and imprisonment transpired first.
God has a great calling over your life. However, we must accept that His way of getting there does not always fit our expectations or hopes. We must surrender these aspirations to God, seek His will, and have faith that His will will be done His way and in His timing.
The Point: God will be faithful to His promises, just not always in the way we might expect or hope. Will you still trust Him?
