It takes two — Scripture Reflection #084

Exodus 14:21-22 (New Living Translation)

21 Then Moses raised his hand over the sea, and the LORD opened up a path through the water with a strong east wind. The wind blew all that night, turning the seabed into dry land. 22 So the people of Israel walked through the middle of the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on each side!

Oftentimes, our deliverance from hardships, struggles, or temptation takes the work of both God and us working together. God was the only one who could miraculously split the Red Sea, making a dry corridor for the people of Israel to walk through. But the Israelites still had to make the walk through that corridor. They had to trust that God would keep those walls of water up while they passed through. Similarly, in our lives, God will provide us with a way out of our troubling circumstances. But we must trust Him and take those steps out when we see them. It takes two!

The Prayer: Mighty God, thank You for caring for me and not allowing me to be destroyed by life’s struggles. God, I pray You help me see where You are working in my life so that I may work alongside You. I praise You for Your goodness and care. Amen.
