A Higher Standard — Scripture Reflection #093

Photo of three targets side-by-side with checkmarks in the center of each. Then, next to them, on the right-hand side, there is one more target magnified by a looking glass. This target has an arrow in its bullseye. This represents how God has a higher standard for those He calls His own. We are to live according to this standard, hitting the bullseye of his calling for us.

Leviticus 11:45 (New Living Translation)

45 For I, the LORD, am the one who brought you up from the land of Egypt, that I might be your God. Therefore, you must be holy because I am holy.

Despite the changes from the Old Testament to the New Testament, and the many years since the last books of the Bible were written, our calling remains much the same: we are to be holy, just like our Father in heaven. God created all things and, therefore, knows what is best for each of us. Like a parent who knows better than their child, God knows what is best for us. And being the good Father that He is, He wants to help us live into it. Part of that means giving us a higher standard to live by. We can open God’s Word and learn just how He calls us to live in order to live a full and abundant life.

Open the Word today and ask God how He wants you to operate throughout the day ahead of you.

The Prayer: God, thank You for calling me to a higher standard. I pray that as I choose to live Your way, I would rely solely on You. You are God, and You are good. Amen.
