Don’t Take God’s Grace For Granted!–Scripture Reflection #034

Romans 2:4 (New Living Translation)

4 Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that His kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?

There is a story of a business owner who assigned an employee a job and provided them with specific instructions on how to complete it. The employee did not follow the instructions well and botched the job, costing the business over $250,000.
As the employee admitted his mistake to the business owner, he fully expected to be fired on the spot for his failure. He apologized and handed his uniform to his boss in shame and regret.
“What are you doing?” the business owner asked.
“I figured that because of my mistake and what I cost your business, you would fire me today,” the employee responded.
“No! You are not your mistake,” the business owner replied. “You learned a $250,000 lesson today, and as of this moment, you are my most priceless employee!”

The business owner showed unprecedented, undeserving grace to their employee. Because of this instance of kindness, it is safe to say that the employee never made that mistake again and learned a thing or two about doing his job better! When we are met with undeserved grace like the employee in this story, it makes us want to do better– to be better.

The Point: Don’t take God’s grace for granted. Instead, ask God to show you where your thoughts, behaviors, and actions do not line up with His will, surrender those areas to Him, and work alongside the Holy Spirit to be who God called you to be.
