Every part of our lives — Scripture Reflection #046

Galatians 5:24-25 (New Living Translation)

24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to His cross and crucified them there. 25 Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.

Directly after differentiating what a life controlled by our own sinful natures looks like from one controlled by the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:19-23), the apostle Paul makes it clear that we have a responsibility to carry out: we must crucify our sinful desires and let the Holy Spirit guide us in every part of our lives. Only then will we be transformed and live the life of freedom that God intends for us.

For me, this means surrendering my thoughts to God and asking Him to guide the way I think. Without His help, my thoughts tend to wander away from things that are pure and holy. Only with His help can I think the way that He has called me to.

The Prayer: Jesus, I surrender my sinful passions and desires to You. I surrender every part of my life, from my relationships and my work to my past and my future. I give everything to You today, Lord, knowing that You can do infinitely more with it than I can. I know that You have called me for more, and I want to realize that today. Please guide me with Your Spirit. Please give me Your fruits that I may live transformed for Your glory. I love You and thank You for the work that You are already doing in my life. Amen.
