Giving With A Good Attitude — Scripture Reflection #022
Luke 21:3-4 (New Living Translation)
3 “I tell you the truth,” Jesus said, “this poor widow has given more than all the rest of them. 4 For they have given a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she has.”
According to the Spiritual Gifts Test, “Giving” is my third-ranked spiritual gift. I wish I could say that I give with an eager and earnest heart, but to be honest, I often struggle to part with my money. My hesitation to give arises when someone asks for something that I do not believe to be a good use of money. The issue is that I weigh the request against what I think the money should be spent on. It is not my job to judge others for their desires or needs. Instead, I need to use the gift to bless others, as God intended it to be used in the first place.
I want to be like the widow in today’s scripture who is seen generously giving with a good attitude. Because, in reality, God will take care of all my needs, so I can take care of others’ needs too!
The Question: What is your attitude like when giving to others?
