God, Give Me Faith in You— Scripture Reflection #021

Luke 18:40-42 (New Living Translation)

40 …As the blind man came near, Jesus asked him, 41 “What do you want Me to do for you?” “Lord,” he said, “I want to see!” 42 And Jesus said, “All right, receive your sight! Your faith has healed you.

Throughout Jesus’ ministry, He healed countless people who had all types of conditions. His catch phrase when He performed one of these miracles was, “Your faith has healed you” (Luke 5:20; Luke 7:1–10; Luke 8:48). Conversely, when Jesus was not able to accomplish miracles, it was because people did not have faith, as seen when He visited His hometown (Mark 6:5). This shows that our faith is paramount to our healing and spiritual growth.

Personally, I recognize that my faith has grown weak. I struggle to understand how God works in my life, which causes me to doubt that He is working for me at all or in the way I feel He should. Further, at times, I am confused about what His will is for me. This causes me to grapple with trusting Him because I feel the need to know what is going on.

The funny thing is, I would not need faith and trust if I knew all the answers; I would struggle to accept that I need God if that were the case. The reality is, my lack of knowledge is what causes me to call on God. I do need him. I do not know what my future holds, but I do know that I will need to reach out for God and trust Him with whatever He has in my future. And I know that He has my best in store as I love Him and give Him my best (Romans 8:28).

The Question: How is your faith looking in these times? Pray,” God, give me faith like a child in You” each day.

A father joyfully lifts a young girl into the air against a clear blue sky. The young girl has faith that her father will catch her. This represents how we need to have a similar faith in God despite what is going on around us.
