God is God and i am not. — Scripture Reflection #036
Romans 11:33–34 (New Living Translation)
33 Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand His decisions and His ways! 34 For who can know the LORD’s thoughts? Who knows enough to give Him advice?
Sometimes, when I read God’s word, I get critical about how God runs things. I think to myself, “Well, if things were this way instead of that way, maybe there wouldn’t be so much conflict.” Or, “Why did God do it like that? Surely there was a better way to do it.”
First and foremost, I am sorry, God, for thinking this way. You are God and I am not. Second, I must remind myself that God created everything, and He has a plan for all His creation. I cannot see enough to make any good critiques or “recommendations” on how things “should be” run.
Today’s scripture humbles me. It reminds me that God is God and I am not. It is better that I accept my place in God’s design rather than try to “fix” what is not broken.
For extra emphasis, God says in Isaiah 55:8-9, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.”
The Prayer: I am sorry, God, for my pride in thinking that I can do things better than You. I surrender my strength, knowledge, and control to you. You are God, the creator of everything. You are rich in wisdom and knowledge. Let Your will be done in me as I get out of Your way. I love You and thank You for how You run things. Amen.
