Here I Am. Send Me.—Scripture Reflection #007

Matthew 9:37–38 (New Living Translation)

37 He said to His disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. 38 So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask Him to send more workers into His field.”

I’ll admit, when I read these verses, I often want to put off the calling of being a worker of the Kingdom of God. I want to take care of my own wants and responsibilities before looking to those of the kingdom. I say to myself, “Someone else will do it”. However, I have learned these past few years that I do not need to set all my plans and duties aside to become a worker for the Kingdom. I can become an effective worker right where God has placed me. After all, He has planted me where I am for a reason.

So when I consider my current placement and the intentionality of God, I realize that I actually have a great opportunity to share about God’s grace, mercy, and love in my life. Let this space be exactly that- a space where I can share how God has saved and transformed me.

With that attitude in mind, let our response to God’s call for workers be like that of Isaiah’s, “Here I am. Send me.” (Isaiah 6:8 NLT)

A student in a classroom raises their hand, focusing on the teacher standing before a whiteboard. This represents the type of response we must have as God calls us to the harvest: "Here I am. Send me".
