Life is too short to waste — Scripture Reflection #068

Psalm 90:12 (New Living Translation)

12 Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.

A teal alarm clock against a dark green background dissolves into particles on the right side, symbolizing time fading or passing, evoking a sense of impermanence. This represents how life is too short to waste; we must use our time wisely.

God created time and our perception of it when He cast the sun and the moon into the sky. He had them govern the light and the darkness that we may find a rhythm to our days, years, and seasons. Within this rhythm, God encourages us to enjoy His creation, find fulfillment in the work He has set before us, and create something of our own.

We have a limit to our time here, however.

Due to Adam’s sin, we have lost the privilege of living forever on earth. Because of his disobedience, we have lost access to the Garden of Eden and the Tree of Life within it, which grants eternal life (Genesis 3:22-23). It is all the more important then that we make the most of our time here. Yes, we are to enjoy this life and work hard and create new things, but most importantly, we are to seek God. He is our Tree of Life. By seeking Him and accepting Jesus, we once again have hope for eternal life. Because of Jesus’ obedience, we have gained access to Heaven and the eternal life that God offers with it (John 3:16). Praise God!

The Point: Life is too short to waste on things that do not have eternal value. What can we cut out of our daily routines to make more time for what matters eternally?
