The Mediator vs The Accuser — Scripture Reflection #062
Revelation 12:10 (New Living Translation)
10 Then I heard a loud voice shouting across the heavens,
“It has come at last–salvation and power and the Kingdom of our God, and the authority of His Christ.
For the accuser of our brothers and sisters has been thrown down to earth–the one who accuses them before our God day and night.
In Revelation, our enemy, Satan, is referred to as the accuser. In this scripture, he is presented as the one who accuses God’s chosen ones before God Himself day and night. In direct contrast to this picture, we find our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, standing before God and actually mediating on our behalf day and night.
In 1 Timothy 2:5, we learn that there is One Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity–the man Christ Jesus. That is because Jesus lived a perfect and blameless life in the sight of God; only He can stand before God and fight for us. This is important because we, well, we have not lived a perfect and blameless life. For all have sinned and fallen short of God’s standard (Romans 3:23), so we are hopeless to fix our plight on our own.
So while the accuser, Satan, has a great case against us, as we are very sinful, our mediator, Jesus, has the final say. He saved us by the blood of His sacrifice on the cross. And for those who choose to believe in Him and trust that they are saved when they believe, nothing that the Accuser says against us will stand. Despite our sin and shortcomings, we are redeemed in the eyes of God because the blood of Jesus covers us when we believe in Him.
The Prayer: Jesus, thank You for dying on the cross for me. Your sacrifice has saved me, and nothing that the accuser says against me can stand. Thank you for mediating on my behalf. I pray that I would not take my salvation for granted, but would work beside You to live how You want me to. I love You. Amen.
